If you don't know, now you know that The Griotz forever and always want to shine a light on diverse cultural experiences via our music. During the month of February, we celebrate Black History in America. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their amazing contributions to U.S. history and beyond. Also known as African American History Month, the concept grew out what was once “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of historian, author, and journalist, Carter G. Woodson, and other prominent Black Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. While this is mostly an American tradition, other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.
